Live fire extinguisher training in Toronto & the GTA
Help your workplace team understand portable fire extinguishers and practise using them with instructor guidance. FC Fire combines discussion of equipment and safe operating procedures with supervised, hands-on practice on a live training fire.
See supervised training in action
The FC Fire training videos give a view of practical extinguisher use. The 20-second clip shows a participant directing a portable extinguisher towards an outdoor training pan fire.
These videos are a preview of hands-on practice, not a substitute for instruction.

What your team will cover
Training gives participants an opportunity to ask questions, discuss equipment and practise the operating sequence with an instructor.
- Fire classifications and why the burning material matters when choosing an extinguisher.
- Safe operating procedures, equipment limits and personal safety.
- The PASS method used during extinguisher operation.
- Supervised practice with portable extinguishers on a live training fire.
Practical learning starts with the right decisions
Knowing the operating sequence is only one part of preparation. Training also gives your team a setting to discuss the equipment, the situation and the limits of what a portable extinguisher can do.
| Learning topic | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Read the equipment label | Extinguishers are marked for the classes of fire they are designed to address. |
| Recognize when to leave | An unknown or spreading fire, unsuitable equipment or a threatened escape route calls for evacuation. |
| Understand the operating sequence | Instructor guidance and supervised practice support familiarity with the equipment. |
| Connect with workplace procedures | Participants need to know the alarm, evacuation and emergency-reporting procedures for their own building. |
Knowing when to leave is part of preparedness
Only consider using an extinguisher if you are trained, have the correct equipment and can do so safely. Do not attempt to fight a spreading fire, an unknown type of fire or a situation that threatens your escape route.
Follow your workplace emergency procedures, raise the alarm, evacuate and call 911 from safety. Training should support the procedures already established for your property.

Whether your team works in a restaurant, office, managed property or another commercial workplace, tell us who will attend and what you want to cover. Mention different shifts or multiple properties when relevant.
Before the session, identify any equipment questions and share the workplace emergency procedures relevant to your group. Tell us about language, accessibility or participation needs so the proposed arrangements can be discussed.
- City, property type and proposed training location.
- Approximate number of participants and previous training.
- Preferred dates, shift arrangements and accessibility needs.
- Training goals and questions about the equipment or work areas.
Confirm arrangements before booking
A practical staff session can combine classroom discussion, an extinguisher-use demonstration and supervised hands-on practice, with completion certificates for participating employees. We will confirm the quoted format, location arrangements, timing and price before booking.
Equipment inspection and staff training are separate services. If you want both, include the equipment details as well as the group information.

Choose a workplace contact to coordinate the session with the instructor. Give that person the participant information, location details and agreed training scope so practical questions can be resolved before the group arrives.
Confirm the practical arrangements
- Ask who will assess the proposed training area and confirm its suitability.
- Identify who will arrange any site permission or local-authority coordination needed for the selected format.
- Agree how weather or an unsuitable location could affect the practical session and what alternatives can be discussed.
- Confirm where participants will gather, how site access will work and which participation or accessibility needs should be raised in advance.
- Ask which equipment will be used and who is responsible for any cleanup and site reinstatement associated with that format.
Share the workplace's alarm, evacuation and emergency-reporting procedures with the instructor where relevant to the agreed session. This helps connect the discussion to the responsibilities participants have at their own property.
Agree on the workplace record
Completion certificates document participation in the agreed staff session; they are not an accredited professional qualification. Before booking, provide the participant details needed for the certificates, explain any additional workplace record requirements and confirm how the documents will be delivered.
After delivery, check the spelling of names, session details and whether the recipient can open the document. Arrange corrections with the training contact and retain the current record in the workplace's training files.
Ask what a completion document records and how it relates to your employer's training requirements. For broader preparation, connect the session with your building's fire-safety procedures and any separate extinguisher inspection needs.
Common questions.
Is this hands-on training?
Yes. The session includes supervised practice with portable extinguishers on a live training fire, alongside instruction on classifications and operation. Confirm practical arrangements for your group when requesting a quote.
Can training take place at our property?
Send the proposed location and information about the available space. Suitability and arrangements must be discussed before the location is confirmed; not every property can accommodate live-fire practice.
How long does a session take, and what does it cost?
Contact FC Fire with the group size, location and goals. The duration, scope and quote will be confirmed before you commit to a booking.
Does training include inspecting our extinguishers?
Training and equipment inspection are separate services. Mention both when you enquire if you need staff practice and equipment care.
Will participants receive completion documentation?
Ask about the documentation available for the proposed session and explain any records your workplace requires before booking.
