Fire extinguisher inspection and service in Toronto
FC Fire Prevention offers portable-extinguisher inspection and replacement supply for businesses and property managers in Toronto and the GTA. FC Fire does not currently provide extinguisher recharging. Replacement supply and any additional work are set out in the quote.

What the visible components tell you.
Portable extinguisher designs differ. This example helps identify visible parts; a gauge reading or service tag alone does not establish that an extinguisher is ready for use.
| Component | Its role | Useful observation to report |
|---|---|---|
| Rating and instruction label | Identifies the extinguisher and its intended fire classes. | An unreadable label or uncertainty about suitability. |
| Cylinder and valve assembly | Contain the agent and control its discharge. | Dents, corrosion, leakage or visible damage. |
| Pressure gauge, where fitted | Indicates pressure against the marked range. | A reading outside that range or a damaged gauge. |
| Safety pin and tamper seal | Help prevent unintended operation and indicate disturbance. | Missing, broken or visibly damaged parts. |
| Hose, horn or nozzle | Directs the discharged agent. | Damage or visible blockage. |
| Bracket, location and service record | Support accessible storage and identification of past work. | Missing equipment, blocked access or unclear records. |
Report a concern; do not try a test discharge.
Tell the responsible person if an extinguisher has been used, disturbed or damaged. Do not discharge it to check that it works.
- Record the equipment location and the visible concern.
- Report any use so appropriate service or replacement can be arranged.
- For a fire, call 911 and follow the building emergency procedures. Portable extinguishers have limited applications; their use depends on training, the correct equipment and a safe escape route.
Start with your equipment.
Share the property address, number and type of extinguishers if known, and the reason for your request. Include recent service records or inspection findings where available.
- Equipment types shown on the labels or records, such as ABC, CO₂, Class K or Purple K.
- The intended area or existing location of each group of extinguishers.
- Reported concerns, replacement needs or a new-space enquiry.
- An on-site contact and access arrangements.
Discuss suitability before selecting equipment.
Tell us about the area where the extinguisher will be located and the equipment already in use. Discuss identification, installation or replacement as part of the proposed service.
For commercial kitchens, include the portable extinguishers in the wider kitchen-suppression conversation. A product name alone is not enough information to scope the work for a property.
Installation and replacement
Discuss the intended location, proposed equipment and work included.
Explore Installation and replacement ↗Keep equipment and service records together.
An agreed extinguisher inspection includes the inspection record and applicable tagging, with deficiencies identified for follow-up. Confirm which extinguishers are included. If you manage several areas or properties, group the equipment details and reports by location.
Inspection and testing
Include extinguisher equipment when discussing a building-wide service visit.

Ask which documentation accompanies the agreed service and any recommendations.

Enquire about a separate fire extinguisher training session for your team.
Explore Staff training ↗Understand the dates before choosing the next service
A report can contain several dates for the same extinguisher. Before requesting a correction or replacement, ask what each field records and which equipment it belongs to. An older year beside a device does not, by itself, mean the latest inspection date is wrong.
- Inspection date: Which visit does this report document?
- Manufacture or equipment date: What does the device field represent, and how was it identified?
- Maintenance or test history: What work is recorded, and which supporting tag or service record relates to it?
- Recommended next action: Is the provider recommending maintenance, testing or replacement, and what equipment-specific information supports that recommendation?
If a date is missing or unclear, flag it for the service provider. Keep the original record and request a clarified or corrected version where needed; avoid replacing an equipment date with the year of the latest visit. Include the model, location and available service history when discussing the next step.
The extinguisher inspection guide explains the different service questions to raise. If further work is proposed, use the recharge or replacement guide to prepare for that discussion. Retain the decision and completed work with your equipment service records.

What if I do not know the extinguisher type?
Share the information you have from labels and service records, the property address and the area where the equipment is located. Mention which details you are unsure about.
Can one enquiry cover several buildings?
Yes. Group the available equipment details and reports by location, identify the requested work for each and provide the relevant access contacts.
Can I ask about replacement equipment and training?
Include replacement needs in the equipment-service enquiry and ask about training as a separate service. Confirm the scope, equipment and records included before work is agreed.
Plan your extinguisher service.
Send the property details, equipment information and requested work. Tell us about any new locations or replacement needs.
