Fire Sprinkler System Maintenance: Ensuring Safety and Compliance
Maintaining your fire sprinkler system is crucial for ensuring safety and compliance with the Ontario Fire Code.Regular inspections and maintenance not only enhance the system’s reliability but also fulfill legal obligations.
Weekly:
- Verify that all control valves are in the correct position, accessible, and free from leaks.
- Ensure dry pipe valve enclosures maintain a temperature above 4°C to prevent freezing.
Monthly:
- Test the alarm on all sprinkler systems by flowing water through the test connection at the sprinkler valve.
- Inspect gauges on wet pipe systems to confirm they are in good condition and that normal water pressure is maintained.
Quarterly:
- Inspect alarm devices for physical damage to ensure they are operational.
- Examine fire department connections to confirm they are visible, accessible, and free from obstructions or damage.
Annually:
- Conduct a comprehensive inspection of all sprinklers, hangers, pipes, and fittings to detect any signs of wear or corrosion.
- Perform main drain tests to assess the water supply pressure and identify potential obstructions or deterioration.
Confirm the inspection and maintenance schedule appropriate to your system with the responsible qualified professional. Discuss the work included in the visit and the records supplied.
